This is a really interesting-looking piece of kit. Suitable from birth up to 24 months, this seat is a great choice and a really worthy investment. The chair can be transitioned easily between modes using simple twists and clicks, but it’s worth keeping the instructions so you can remember how to switch.Ī bonus – it also folds flat and can be stored out of sight easily when not in use. The five-point harness is very robust and we felt safe that our baby was secure, even when in the most upright position. ![]() If there is no special style indicated by the server owner, the only objective is the above (to simply kill opponent tanks) it is called a "free for all", or "FFA" for short. Styles are server-based, as the server operator chooses what style to host. There are styles of game play that modify the objective. Since all players can see the position of all the tanks on their radar, it is a game of out-maneuvering rather than sneaking. The basic objective is to destroy opponents' tanks, which are tanks of another team's color. Tanks have the ability to drive through other tanks, but cannot travel through buildings or other world objects. In a game of BZFlag, players drive around tanks, viewed from a first-person view, in a server-defined world (also known as a "map"), which can be modified. The newest game logo for version 2.0.8 and after. Tim Riker was later given the project prior to version 1.7e to maintain and evolve. Schoeneman eventually re-wrote BZFlag in C++ for SGI's third IndiZone competition, which won in the "Reality Engine" category. Previously, players had to either set-up their own servers, know of servers, or read a list published and maintained by a third-party, but the new server list (hosted on the official BZFlag website, even today) allowed anybody to play games on servers that chose to become public. In 1997, the release of version 1.7d came with a groundbreaking new feature: an in-game public server list. Soon after, bad and good flags were added, and the idea remains part of game play today however, flags do not have markers and are completely unknown of their types until they are picked up by a tank (unless a tank is carrying an identify flag). There was only one of each flag, and all flags had a marker on them so tanks knew what type it was. The first four flags were High Speed (boosted tank speed), Quick Turn (tank turned faster), Rapid Fire (shots moved faster), and Oscillation Overthruster (tank could go through objects). This release took a new turn compared to older versions after a cheater, who edited the source code of his client to give himself powers that do not come from official releases, inspired Schoeneman and Pasetto to add "super-flags." Super flags affect a tank's performance by adding abilities or weapons to its arsenal. In 1993, BZFlag was released to the public for the first time. This new mode added a requirement of strategy, teamwork, and skill, which was sufficient to keep interest. ![]() However, after Schoeneman and his friend Rick Pasetto (who helped Schoeneman develop BZFlag from the beginning) became bored with the concept, they invented the capture-the-flag mode. Originally, BZFlag was simply a shoot 'em up game with no other modes. At first, BZFlag was called "bz" and despite its similarity to the SGI game of the same title by Chris Fouts, both games were completely independent of each other. Note the opaque HUD contrasting with newer versions.īZFlag was originally written in C by Chris Schoeneman in 1992 based on the chart-topping hit arcade game, Battlezone. Honestly, if I place “Song for Orphans” in historical context, I can’t second-guess Bruce’s decision to not release it. Take a listen to that first recording below–lyrically it’s virtually identical to Bruce’s 2005 version, except for a head-scratching change or two, and interestingly, the chorus uses the same melody as the verses, even though Bruce had already performed the song live using the chorus melody Bruce employed in the 2005 version above. Surviving records indicate Bruce was considering it for inclusion on Born to Run as well, so the song was clearly not one that Bruce intended to abandon easily. While he was certainly performing it live prior to his first issue on Columbia Records, all evidence indicates that he didn’t record a demo of it until a month after Greetings hit store shelves, making it a candidate for inclusion on The Wild, The Innocent & The E Street Shuffle instead. The result was something fresh and new even for hardcore fans well familiar with the song from decades-old bootlegs.Īs for the original song, “Song for Orphans” (sometimes referred to as “Song to Orphans” or “Song of the Orphans”–Bruce seems to have been prepositionally conflicted) does indeed date back to the Greetings from Asbury Park era, but Bruce may be mis-remembering it as an outtake from that album. Bruce was immediately taken by his ancient composition and decided to reclaim it.Īs he often does, he did a bit more than resurrect it–he also re-arranged it, massaging the melody of the verses into something less dirge-y and more Bobby Jean-y and adding piano accompaniment in the form of Alan Fitzgerald. What brought this forgotten song back to the stage? Apparently, Bruce had been listening to the brand new Sirius satellite radio station, E Street Radio, at the exact moment the station was playing the song off of an old bootleg. ![]() If you looked around the room during the performance, you’d have seen jaws drop if not for Bruce’s playing, you could have heard pins drop. But for now, it feels like honoring the spirit of the album to preserve the past alongside the present. I’ll let my original essay stand for now perhaps someday I’ll revise it to reflect the tremendous modern version. As I mused in my Twitter conversation with Anthony above, Bruce seems to pair and place “ If I Was The Priest” and “Song for Orphans” deliberately, as a look back (on multiple levels) to the beginning of his journey from his current location far, far up the road. And while the song is still as lyrically dense as ever, the subtext that I alluded to in the original essay below (about the temptations facing an aspiring rock star) seem much less sub- and much more primary. As of a few minutes ago, we finally have a fully realized official E Street Band recording of “Song for Orphans” via Bruce’s just-released Letter to You album. They're good album-mates, these two songs. ![]() I think "Song to Orphans" is less about the call and more about the dangers, distractions, temptations, and seductions that lie in one's path when answering it. ![]() In fact, on a small display like iPhone or Samsung device, you may hardly notice the differences between full HD 1080P and UHD 4K. (When) Should I upgrade my Mac to Ventura? I decided that that was annoying and misleading, so we added support for the new login item mechanism to CCC 6.1.3. In our case, the login item is "CCC Dashboard", but people were being notified that CCC was added as a login item. Additionally, the notification that you see indicates the application that added the login item, not the item that would be launched on login. You will undoubtedly see this barrage of notifications from other applications when you upgrade. ![]() Normally I don't immediately adopt brand-new features like this (because it makes it more complicated to support multiple OSes with one version of CCC), but we found that if we continued to use the old mechanism, the user would get frequent notifications that CCC had added a login item. In Ventura, Apple deprecated an older mechanism for adding login items, and replaced it with a new mechanism. Yeah, "login items" – you can imagine how exciting my summer was □. At that point you're prompted to authenticate, and then you're done. As a result, the procedure for granting Full Disk access to CCC and its helper tool on Ventura is now one step! When you start dragging CCC's "privacy fish", CCC will open the System Settings application and reveal the Full Disk Access controls, ready for the drop. They finally dropped the padlock paradigm, so pre-authentication is no longer required to unlock the settings in the Privacy panel. I'm delighted to report that Apple made a modicum of improvement to this process in Ventura. Normally that works fine, but it was still multiple steps, and users could take a wrong turn at any of those steps. ![]() ![]() Apple doesn't offer a programmatic interface for the "Full Disk Access" controls, so the best we can do is coach users through the procedure. These settings have been pretty annoying for developers and users alike. Privacy SettingsĪpple introduced new privacy settings in macOS Mojave, and they've been tweaking them in every OS release. Now that I've accepted using the Search feature, I think I'm actually a bit faster at using it. Apple was always meddling with the order of items in System Preferences, though, and I recall feeling disoriented every year in this application. I finally gave up and accepted that I'll just have to use the search bar to find things. Initially I was really flustered with the new layout. The name change seems innocuous, but the changes that Apple made to this application are really significant. So to spice things up, I added a recipe for Pumpkin Spice Muffins at the bottom. Overall, the changes are pretty bland, which means this article will not be very exciting. ![]() We have a mixed bag this year, and I wanted to point out just a couple things that work a little differently. I don’t subscribe to that school of skin care,” says CAP founder Kerrilynn Pamer, a serene presence in the Zoom window from her home in a remote part of Calabasas. “There’s the historical perception of a toner being stripping and drying-step two in your three-step skin care process.
